Is a Long Range Wireless Doorbell Worth the Money?
Doorbells are a staple of modern architecture, whether they are for private homes or commercial enterprises, and they are a convenience visitors expect to be in place when they arrive. An ineffective, or broken, doorbell will negatively affect a person's first impression and mood by keeping them waiting without good reason. Choosing a doorbell for your building requires you to consider several factors before making a decision, especially when you examine the differences between using a wired chime and a wireless system, to ensure that your choice is the one best suited for your situation.
When deciding between a wired and wireless doorbell the first thing to consider is the size of the building the doorbell is meant to alert. For most smaller buildings, single or two story houses for example, a simple wired system is more than adequate because it can be installed with relative ease in an easily accessible location. As the size of the building increases the amount of wiring and volume needed to make a doorbell of this type effective increases exponentially. It may still be the best option for warehouses, offices, and any other locations where the only people who need to be notified of visitors reside in a centralized location, such as a reception area.
In any situation requiring multiple doorbells a wired chime will cease to be economical. Wiring several locations from a single doorbell may not cost a great deal more, as far as materials are concerned, but the added complexity of the system will make it prone to malfunctions and increase its maintenance costs. This holds true for any size of building: a small house with thick walls – where you want to place a chime in the basement, garage, and in the house – requires a system as complex as a doorbell in a shop or warehouse that is being run from multiple locations. If you realize that you will need to place several chimes in order to meet your needs you should consider investing in a wireless system.
The purpose of a long range wireless doorbell is to bypass all of the complexity of wiring a system with one or more doorbells. The beauty of wireless systems lies in their simplicity: by using transmitters, that emit radio signals, they can activate the chime from a distance through walls and other materials. This makes them ideal for setting up complex systems, or replacing broken ones, when you do not want to run wiring to every location.
To assess the cost-effectiveness of a wireless doorbell you have to keep in mind a few factors: mainly the cost of installation, and the versatility of the system. Although wireless systems can cost a bit more than their wired counterparts they make up for it by having negligible installation costs. You can hang a wireless system with a nail or screw, where as you have to run wiring from the doorbell to the chime's location with a wired system. As far as versatility goes, you can program a wireless system to produce a different sound from every button pushed, whereas you would have to run separate wires from each location to a chime in order to achieve the same affect. Unless you desire the most basic system, a wireless doorbell is a good investment.
