Guitars used in Psychedelic 60's Rock?

What is a good guitar for psychedelic rock? Maybe something cheap, I was thinking a epiphone, gibson, or maybe a vox but there all so expensive, plus voxs are not that easy to find anymore. What about American Standard Telecaster, Harmony Stratotone, Airline Tuxedo, Epiphone ES 335? And what about an acoustic?

There were not many Epiphones around. MANY of the guitarists used Gibsons. The SG was probably the guitar of choice of many. A little later, after the advent of Led Zepp, you saw more Les Pauls. Lots of players didnt like them because they are relatively heavy. Flying V's came around a little later too. The Gibson ES 335's were more rhythm guitars because of the full round tone you get out of them.

Fender Tele's and Strats are a bit more versatile. Hendrix used a strat. Clapton w/Cream and beyond used a Strat. Probably more Fenders over those years than most.

Other guitars of note were Rickenbachers. Many of the English bands used these and they were also played in bands that had more of a folk music feel to them. Especially the 12 strings. Ricks didnt "scream" the way Fenders did.

The Guild "Starfire" was and still is a great guitar. Again, mostly used for rhythm, but some lead players used them. George Harrison used Gretsch guitars often, most notably the Country Gentlemen. The Gretsch "Anniversary" or "Double Anniversary" were also nice wide body semi solid guitars lots of guys used.
