How to Make Decision Between Analog Vs Digital Ip Video Surveillance

Analog cameras turn the video signal into a format that can be received by a television or other receiver such as a VCR or monitor. An IP-based camera, also known as an IP network camera, digitizes the video signal using a specialized encoder that contains an onboard web server.
This allows the IP camera to act as a network device, thus allowing captured video images to be viewed not only through an existing network but also through a web browser that can be accessed through the Internet.

IP camera is connected to lan segment of your network(home or buisness),and transmits video signal over network.Analog camera is connected via coax cable to dvr or dvr card in your pc.

Main difference between analog vs digital is resolution of the picture because analog use max 0,3mpix,but ip cameras start from 0,3mpix - 1mpix-2mpix etc..
Picture by ip camera with 2mpix sensor if far better then best analog camera with 0,3mpix.
This is the first reason to choose ip, if you want clear picture with lots of details.

IP-based systems have the added benefit of being able to use switches, hubs, and routers that allow the Cat-5 network to be expanded to much broader ranges.

IP cameras offer the following features that analog cameras do not:
2 way data/audio - the device can send and receive information to almost any digital device. This allows users to communicate what they are seeing (e.g. Petrol station clerk assisting a customer on how to use the prepay pumps), or warn off perpetrators via the camera's speakers.

High Resolution - as with digital still cameras, the resolution of IP cameras is superior to analog cameras and is increasing. There is no cap or restriction on resolution, as is the case with CCTV cameras which are restricted by the PAL/NTSC standards.

Smart phone - some, but not all, IP cameras have built-in VoIP function enabling the device to send and receive phone calls based on events, allowing voice and video interaction via a smart phone (e.g. iPhone).

The following are some of the potential weaknesses of IP systems in comparison to analog CCTV cameras.

Higher initial cost per camera

Potentially high network bandwidth requirements due to the higher image quality: a typical IP camera with resolution of 640x480 pixels and 10 frames per second (10 frame/s) in MJPEG mode requires about 3 Mbit/s[11]. Although newer codecs offer much lower bandwidth; H.264 on average requires 5-6x less bandwidth than MJPEG. Additionally, this can easily be offset by correct utilization of the analytic and event based triggers
