How much should it cost to fix the rack and pinion on a 03 Dodge Stratus? Also to replace the?
Brake light switch? I feel like I'm getting messed around because I don't know how much these things should cost. Is there somewhere online to go to check and make sure your not getting ripped off? Thanks.
I own a shop, and happen to know it can get expensive to replace the rack-an-pinion. They are extremely hard to get out, and a lot of stuff must be removed to free it up to where it will clear to be removed. Some of them, the engine must be unbolted, jacked up, and moved around to get it out. The rack job may be as much as $500-$700 to replace. As for the brake light switch, that too can be difficult to remove, and a lot of stuff has to be taken out in order to get to it. You could be looking at $150-$200 to change the switch, this of course depends on how hard it is to get to, and how long it takes to get it out. Both of these jobs are no picnic, and the rack itself is an expensive item to purchase. If you wish to get a better idea on the situation, call a dealer, and ask them what they would charge to do the jobs. This way you will know if you are getting hosed or not.
