Video Splitter: Makes it Possible to Share Identical Images from one Source on Various Displays
With the help of a Video Splitter, a user can display the same signal onto different display devices simultaneously. The number of display devices varies depending upon the model of splitter used. However, by cascading, a simultaneous display on up to 100 devices is possible. Available in 2, 4, 8 and 16 ports, this device provides crystal clear images by amplifying the video signal as if each display device is directly connected to the source. Compatible with PCs, SUNs and MACs with VGA Video, these splitters support UXGA, SXGA, XGA, and VGA resolutions along with DDC, DDC2, and DDC2B protocols. A familiar item in the splitter category is the Cat5 VGA Splitter.
This device, when connected via inexpensive Cat5 cables, makes it possible to transmit video signals up to a distance of 984 feet to multiple locations. These splitter extenders are built in 2, 4 and 8 port models consisting of a transmitter and receiver. Some versions have optional audio, enabling transmission of sound along with video over the same cable. Since this is a purely hardware device, it does not require any software or drivers for operation. Simple to operate, this device functions by connecting the transmitter with a VGA cable from the computer’s VGA graphics port. The VGA output of the receiver is then connected to the display devices. The earlier models of splitters could support analog display only.
But advancement in technology has introduced the DVI Splitter, a device which can support a DVI interface as well. This device uses a simple plug and play methodology to function and is connected with a DVI cable from the DVI graphic source to the DVI Splitter input and then connects DVI video displays to each of the outputs of the splitter. Compatible with PC, Mac or SUN based systems using the newer DVI video connectors; these devices support high-resolution displays up to 1920x1200 @ 60 Hz. Available in multiple sizes, such as 2, 4, and 8 ports they can be daisy chained or cascaded thereby splitting and sharing the DVI video connection among many DVI video displays. A dual link DVI model is also available for high end graphics applications. The Video Splitter is a device which comes in handy wherever users feel the need to share information at multiple locations in real time or require multiple identical visual streams. Corporate showrooms, banks, stock exchanges, trade shows, training centers, train and bus stations are all examples of places where these devices are used.
