Dairy Power Sweeps New York - Harvest Power
NEW YORK–We've heard of ‘Black Power' and ‘Power to the People.' But a new green slogan may be coined: ‘Dairy Power.' This week, more than 200 dairy farmers and industry stakeholders met in Syracuse, New York to discuss the various ways their farms can make energy for the 21st century.
The Dairy Power Summit attendees set a huge goal–by 2020, 40% of waste products from New York dairy farms will be converted to energy by the process of anaerobic digestion. How big of a goal is that? Well, 40% participation would power 30,000 houses in the New York region. Not only would it also provide additional revenue to these farms, but greenhouse gas emissions in the state would decrease by 500,000 metric tons of carbon annually. That's like taking 100,000 cars off the road every year.
The Summit was convened by the Innovation Center of the United States Dairy, along with General Electric. New York's 40 by 15 energy plan is one of the most progressive in the nation–especially since 30% of the renewable energy will be sourced through methane.
Summit members also devised an action of plan of more than a dozen projects to help achieve their goals–many of them with tongue-in-cheek names and creative ways to get more people involved with organic waste processing. Examples? "NY Cow Power," modeled after a Vermont program, will develop an alternative voluntary rate-payer program for energy that's sourced through anaerobic digestion. The Small Farm Digester Initiative makes organic waste processing a contest–and there's a $1 million dollar prize going to the winner.

what's in electric power system analysis and control?
I will be having a written examination and an interview later about electric power system analysis and control. Could you help me on this?
Well, it's a big field. I'm afraid that if you're going for an interview, and you don't know much about the subject, you might be in trouble.
Here's a little basic info that may help you search the web for more info:
Electric Power systems are divided into 3 main branches: Generation, Transmission, and Distribution. (There is a 4th branch, speculation, that was created through deregulation, and so far has mainly allowed companies like Enron to steal massive amounts of money from the ratepayers).
Generation should be obvious (power plants). Transmission moves the power over long distances (at very high voltages) from the power plants to substations scattered all around. Distribution gets the power from the substations to homes and businesses, and is the "last mile" of the power system.
The analysis starts with measurement. At many points throughout the system, basic measurements like Volts, Amps, Watts, Vars, Volt-Amps, and Power Factor are measured and sent back to a control center (a "Master-Station").
The system also has numerous switches and breakers that allow power to be turned on or off, (and, in the case of breakers, will automatically open if there is a fault, just like the circuit-breakers in your fuse-box). There are also status inputs (to indicate the state of breakers, and other "binary" inputs). "Controls" are used to close and open switches and breakers; these are basically binary outputs.
Power-system analysis can be very complicated. It basically needs to a) make sure there is enough power available to supply what's needed, b) make sure the transmission system can carry the power to the appropriate places, c) detect problems (downed lines, instabilities, voltage sag, under-frequency, etc) and of course, d) measure how much power was used for billing purposes!
That's a few tid-bits, but you're going to have to do a fair amount of research to be anything like fluent on the topic!
