How To Tell if Network Cable Is Bad?
Hey folks,
Recently I've been having internet connection problems with my pc. Frequently I'll go to a page and I'll get "Problem Loading Page" in Firefox (which I think is equivalent to "Page Can't Be Displayed" in IE). Then I refresh and it's fine. It's not the websites though because it happens on *all* sites, even the largest ones.
Is there any way I can tell if the problem is from the network cable other than trying out another network cable (or spending a ton of money on a cable tester)? It runs through my walls and is a distance away from the router, so I don't want to run new cable unless I absolutely have to.
Alternatively, is there a test on the internet where I can upload/download files and it could look for missing/corrupted bits? I think if there were missing/corrupted bits, the problem would be more likely stemming from my end rather than my ISP's.
Thanks
You can ping your router from your computer to see if you are getting consistent results, and to see if you have any lost of data between your router and your computer. Any lost of data means you either have problem with your connector or your cable.
To find out your Router gateway address, do the following:
Start -> Run
type cmd
type ipconfig
write down your router gateway IP address, then do the following:
Start -> Run
type cmd
type ping xxx.xxx.xx.xx (your router gateway IP address).
