Can I just add a switch to a wireless network?
I have Comcast cable coming into the house and have it hooked up to a wireless (WNR1000) Netgear router - I have 2 computers and 1 printer plugged in to Netgear. I just had 3 ethernet cables run through my attic and down the walls for 3 new receptacles throughout the house. The purpose was to stream movies through my Blue Ray player and Roku box and hook up one additional desktop. Tried hooking up a Leviton Gateway and learned the Gateway and Netgear router each have HDCP servers and are conflicting in getting an IP address. I've been told to disable the HDCP in the gateway or router. I don't want to mess with my "already working fine" network via the router so could I just swap out the Leviton Gateway with a simple switch for this arrangement?
wireless switch? sounds like you want a mesh network or WDS.
routers that have WDS can extend the wireless reach I believe. they all have to be on the same channel and ssid. belkin n+ routers have this capability. so do routers that have dd-wrt firmware.
