How Do I Connect My Laptop To The Internet/WiFi?

I just got the laptop yesterday...

It SAYS that the WiFi is on, or something.
On the bottom right corner, there are these bars with a yellow dot in front of it...
I open an Internet Explorer, but it says it cannot display the page.
What do I do to connect to the internet?
I have an Ethernet ADSL Modem.
About routers i don't know.

you need to connect to a network first. Click on the yellow dot and a list of near by networks should come up. Select one and connect. Then try your browser.
