Cisco Router Comparsion of New Models - Speed

Does a faster processor really mean better for you?  Cisco announced the successors to the 1841/2800/3800 routers earlier this year.  In a side-by-side comparison on processor speed, the new models are impressive:

ISR G2 Series : Original ISR Series:

CISCO 1941 - 153 Mbps v.  CISCO 1841 - 35 Mbps

CISCO 2901 - 167 Mbps v. CISCO 2801 - 45 Mbps

CISCO 2911 - 180 Mbps v.  CISCO 2811 - 61 Mbps

CISCO 2921 - 246 Mbps v. CISCO 2821 - 80 Mbps

CISCO 2951 - 297 Mbps v. CISCO 2851 - 112 Mbps

CISCO 3925 - 426 Mbps v. CISCO 3825 - 176 Mbps

CISCO 3945 - 502 Mbps v. CISCO 3845 - 256 Mbps

In some cases, the total throughput is over 5x higher for the ISR G2 (1941 vs. 1841).

However, when the environments where these routers are used is examined, we see a different picture emerge, one where even the much-slower 1841 is limited by the WAN connection rather than the router's CPU.

Take for example a small branch office, in which there may be two WAN connections, a DSL or cable connection for internet use and a point to point T1 for connectivity back to the central office. At most, the total throughput needed here will be on the order of 10Mbps, still well within the capability of the 1841. Because of this, it's important to perform a careful examination of what kind of WAN connectivity the router will be required to handle.

The 1841/2800/3800 routers have not reached end of sale yet, and Cisco currently has no plans to do so .... and this series offers an attractive price for anyone replacing, upgrading, doing a new installation, or you just have a constrained budget.

In New or used, the older series will work great.

Nintendo DS WiFi Help?

I'm trying to connect my Heart Gold to WiFi, but my DS won't let me connect to my router because "The access point's security settings are not supported by the Nintendo DS." Is there anything I can do to make this work?

My DS is the original one, and my router says Cisco and Linksys. I don't know if that helps at all.
WEP key? Is that my security code? Because the DS doesn't even let me put it a code, it just says that the security settings aren't supported.

You might be using WPA2 security settings. The original DS is only compatible with WEP security settings.

You could try configuring the security on your router to WEP or you can go buy a Nintendo brand wireless USB access point.
