Dual/Tri-SIM Card Phones are Ideal for Frequent Travelers
Do you have separate cellular phones for work-related and personal calls? What about when you travel for business or go on vacation? Calling internationally, is it cheaper to use a phone card or international plan on my cellphone?
I have a friend in China and she brought her iphone with her. I want to call her but I know it might be expensive. We both have AT&T plans but no international plans. Is it better for each of use to purchase the international plan? just call her from a international phone card?...If I call her using this phone card, will she be charged international rates on her cellphone? What would you suggest I do?

If your friend's iPhone works in China, you could just call her US number without paying anything extra but then she'd have to pay a roaming fee of $2.29/minute to receive the call. I'd cost her the same to call you while she's roaming in China. For an extra $5.99/month they'd only make her pay $1.99/minute to make or receive a call:

The least expensive thing to do is for her to either rent or buy a phone there (depending on how long she's gonna stay) and for you to call her using some sort of 'dial-around' method like a calling card -- you can get rates as low as 1 cent/minute that way:
