Cable Snagless

D-Link DGS-2208 8-Port 10/100/1000 Desktop Switch

This is the most effective unmanaged switch i have been able to realize. Unmanaged implies that the unit doesn't have an ethernet interface which will be used to prioritize traffic flow. Unmanaged switches are by way the foremost common kind, and for many residential applications can do the work for considerably less cash.

The switch operates at full speed, and that i haven't had any signs of one hundred Mbp/s devices inflicting it to curtail alternative devices. I checked this, and it operates every device plugged into it at full speed notwithstanding the speed of the opposite devices. Some individuals say it will curtail, therefore maybe there are multiple revisions out there. the 2 that I actually have were purchased in August 2007 and don't have a haul with this.

The ports are well spaced, and it's simple to plug in and take away cables, even ones with plastic overmolded snagless heads. I've had alternative switches within the past that had the ports therefore shut along that I started leaving each alternative port open simply to urge some house. that's not the case with this one.

I have 2 of them, with one up in my workplace and therefore the alternative within the basement wall-mounted beside the wiring closet. The basement unit is that the primary backbone for my home network, therefore it gets a significant workout. the power to wall mount them could be a nice possibility.

One factor concerning these switches is that the first processor within the unit doesn't have a heat sink on it. I opened each of mine and place a heat sink on them that I had lying around. they do not want an enormous one, because the heat generated is not extreme, however you'll simply add one as slightly of insurance.

I place 2 of those in full service in my home and have used them continuously currently for over a year, and that they are still going robust. after I want another one, this is often the one i am going to get.

Fast, fairly cheap, and well created. suggested.

Is this network setup ok?

I am not new to networking but all these cables confuse me. I want to get a new wireless network because the current one is a piece of s***. I want to get a Linksys AM200 and a Linksys WRVS4400N I will connect them with a Cat5e Snagless UTP Patch Cable. I will then connect 1 computer to the router with another of the same cable and connect some others by WiFi. Will this work.
@hitman : I was under the impression that I was buying a modem and a router as opposed to a gateway. I thought a modem was required to access the internet through the gateway.

that network setup should work fine.
from the modem_>ethernet->wan port on router->ethernet->computer
the rest will be connected thru wireless.

just don't try to put multiple routers in line. You can't put 2 routers together, unless you are running multiple subnets. Yet that is a different story, and discussion.
