In the same year Heinrich Rudolf Hertz introduced the theory of electromagnetic wave which had early on been researched by James Clerk Maxwell and Michael Faraday. Rudolf demonstrated that electromagnetic waves could be transmitted through straight lines and were able to receive.
Later on his experiment was borrowed by Hertz with the practical application of the wireless communication with the remote control technology been improved by Nikola Tesla.

LMR-400 is a low loss coaxial cable rated at 50 ohms characteristic impedance. You don't need to measure the impedance. In fact, trying to measure the impedance won't do you any good as all you'll do is measure the DC resistance which probably not what you want to know. Impedance isn't the same as resistance when dealing with RF or AC.
You can buy LMR-400 from a 2-way radio shop or an electronics supply outfit (not a stereo store or the like, but an electronics parts supply) or from an on-line supplier. You'll also need fittings so you can connect to this cable. You need to know what kind of fittings you need, BNC, UHF, N, etc. This is an air core, foil shielded cable and it's a little tricky to put the fittings on. I've installed thousands of feet of LMR-400 and put on hundreds or connectors.
